A stable life, continuous self‑improvement and a peaceful heart are the best assets in life. I believe the best social circle you can ever have is yourself.

002. 拿捏口语的关键是活人感
Most people fail at spoken English, not because their grammar is bad or they don’t have enough vocabulary. The real problem is that they sound like a textbook. If you’ve ever practiced thousands of sentences, memorized tons of words, and still feel awkward when speaking English, this video is for you. The key to mastering spoken English is simple: sound human, not perfectly grammatical. A genuine human vibe is the core of real communication. Textbook English is rigid, scripted and mechanical, it's clean, correct but lifeless. That’s why when you speak like this, people feel you are reciting, not talking. Real human conversation is flexible, a little imprecise, natural and emotional. Native speakers don’t speak perfectly. They use filler words, pause, hesitate, simplify sentences, and even make mistakes. But they sound real and alive. That’s exactly what makes communication smooth. Let me give you an example. A textbook-style answer would be, "I think it's a very interesting and meaningful activity." But a real person would just say, "It's super fun. I really like it." A lot of English learners trap themselves in perfection anxiety. They wait for the grammatically 100% correct sentence before opening their mouths. They fear mistakes, stuttering, and sounding unprofessional. But in real life communication, people don't care about your tiny grammar mistakes. They care about your logic, your expression, your attitude and your emotion. Spoken English is not an exam, it's a connection between two people.
So, how do you build this human vibe in your spoken English? First, stop reciting, start paraphrasing. Don't memorize fixed sentences, learn to express one meaning in several simple ways. Use easy words to express complex thoughts, that's real fluency. Second, add natural fillers and pauses. fillers like, well, actually, I guess, honestly, make your speech sound spontaneous, not rehearsed. Pauses give your speech rhythm, and make you sound calm and confident. Third, speak with intonation and emotion. Flat tone equals robot tone. Native speakers change their pitch when they're happy, surprised or doubtful. Intonation carries more information than words sometimes. Fourth, accept small imperfection. Mistakes are normal in real time speaking. Don't correct yourself all the time. Keep the conversation going. Fluency always beats accuracy in oral communication.

Remember to tag your location in every video to precisely attract local students. Third, convert potential clients through trial lessons. A lot of tutors lose clients because they mention prices too early. My 30-minute trial class is full of interactive conversations. I can quickly figure out each student's weak points: being too shy to speak, having bad pronunciation, using incomplete sentences, or lacking fluency. After class, I give a targeted, personalized improvement plan. Last but not least, focus on retaining existing students. If you can keep students long-term, you won't have to spend all your energy looking for new students constantly. I send regular study feedback and an oral progress report to every student. When students see their clear progress step by step, they will actively recommend me to their relatives and friends, bringing in a steady stream of new students at no extra cost. Small progress every day will eventually lead to huge changes.
The second lesson is that consistency always beats intensity. Many people study crazily for one or two days, then stop for weeks. They expect quick results and feel disappointed when they see no improvement. But English never works that way. It doesn't depend on how hard you study in a single day. It depends on how steadily you keep going. Ten minutes of daily practice is more powerful than three hours of temporary passion. Slow, consistent effort is the key to mastering English.
The third lesson is that English should be used, not just memorized. We spend so much time memorizing words, reciting texts, and learning grammar rules. I used to be a total people pleaser. In the past, I always lived for others' opinions. I would compromise my own needs, sacrifice my time, and tolerate unfair treatment just to keep everyone happy. But instead of gaining respect, I only got endless exhaustion, imbalance, and the feeling of being taken for granted.
When I started my career as an independent teacher, I began to rebuild myself completely. As an educator facing dozens of students and different parents every day, I had no choice but to become clear about my boundaries. I set clear teaching standards, clear learning rules, and clear personal boundaries. Now I know what to tolerate and what to reject. I do not over-explain myself, nor do I try to please, cater to, or cling to others. That is how I maintain clear boundaries. I know my strengths as an English teacher, recognize my professional values, and never doubt myself because of others' casual comments. That is a clear sense of self. My reading and listening skills are awesome, but my speaking and writing skills are terrible. What can I do?
Number one: Use AI to practice your output. Doubao has a free calling function which allows you to talk with it in English whenever you want. Ask it to correct and improve your words. You don't have to worry about its feelings because it's not a real human, and you can send your compositions to it and receive detailed feedback immediately.
Number two: Whenever you meet a new expression while studying English material, try to make a sentence with it. You can say the sentence out loud, say it to yourself, or write it down—however you like. The aim is to practice using the expression on your own instead of just recognizing it. In this way, it will become part of your active vocabulary.
Number three: Be aware of the importance of consistency. Even fluent speakers need to keep training, or their speaking skills will soon get rusty. You need to put the training task on your agenda and develop it into a habit.

How do you create an English environment? By playing English audio in the background nonstop? By changing your phone language to English? Actually, it's not as useful as you think. So you seize every spare moment to listen to English materials, and switch all the content you see to English as much as possible, trying to create something resembling an English environment.
How much time can you spend studying English with full concentration? Exposing yourself to English doesn't mean you're learning English. Effective acquisition requires active involvement. In other words, you have to proactively absorb new words, phrases, sentence structures, grammar rules, and such, without doing anything else. Otherwise, you're not truly learning English.
Creating an English environment is a persistent myth that allows you to slack off, where you don't have to use your mind, and knowledge just sinks in effortlessly. If you really want to improve your English proficiency, just spend a couple of hours per day focusing on learning it. Following a systematic plan is much more efficient and effective than creating an English environment.
By the way, those who have studied abroad for years aren't necessarily good at English. I've met a college student who had lived in America—a real English environment—for two years, and came back with English at only a primary school level.

First, teaching English online is super awesome. I don't have to spend any time commuting between work and home. All I need is my laptop, a pair of earphones with a microphone, a USB webcam, a ring light, and I'm all set. And landing a job like that isn't as hard as you think, because there are a lot of job openings for online English teachers. If you're not confident in your English proficiency, you can also start by teaching young kids.
Second, practice your English speaking skills with Doubao. I think we all have to admit that speaking skills are almost the most important part for English teachers. Being able to speak English fluently and naturally brings more job opportunities. And if you stop practicing for a while, your spoken English will soon get rusty. I think Doubao is a perfect English partner — you can call it and speak English with it directly. It can talk about any topic you want, help you correct and improve your sentences, teach you expressions you can't think of, and it's free.
Third, read some interesting foreign magazine articles to boost your vocabulary. Articles are short, which means they don't consume much of your time or energy. It's much easier to fit article reading into your daily schedule than reading English books. While reading, you absorb English expressions and learn how to use them in different contexts. It's a really efficient way to increase your input. And remember to pick ones with topics you're really interested in, which helps you engage in and stick to the habit.

010. 背诵英语句子对提高口语没用
Memorizing English sentences doesn't help with your speaking skills. It seems like a good method, but it isn't.
First, the content you memorize becomes part of your input. Whether you know how to use these words and phrases is not guaranteed, because you haven't dug into their various usages in different contexts. You may recognize these expressions when you see or hear them, but when you need to speak or write, they will be on the tip of your tongue, or you simply cannot think of them.
Second, when you memorize some content, you don't have to think about how to organize words, which means your mind isn't trained to construct sentences. Your English fluency and accuracy depend on whether you're used to putting words together correctly. If you want to articulate yourself in English, you need to practice making sentences. There are no shortcuts, I'm afraid.
Third, even if you can use the sentences you memorize in real conversations, there are countless scenarios that you need to deal with in day‑to‑day life, and the dynamics of conversations change every second. It's impossible for you to communicate with others based on your memory all the time. Languages are never fixed.

Just think about it: when you repeat after another person, do you take the initiative to put words together? No. You don't need to think about the words, phrases, and sentence structures on your own. You're just repeating after them without pausing. If you don't use your mind, how can you train your mind to construct English sentences?
The only way to boost your speaking skills is to practice making English sentences, either through writing or speaking itself. In this process, you gradually get used to using all the English you've learned. Shadowing can, at most, help with your pronunciation and intonation because you're imitating the speaker. But the effect is highly limited because you can't hear your own voice without pausing, so you have no chance to precisely correct and improve your pronunciation and intonation.
You can learn very little by shadowing unless you pause after every sentence, imitate the audio, and learn the words, phrases, and sentence structures one by one. It's a sort of input.

012. 词汇量很大，但说不出来
You know their Chinese meanings at a glance, but when you want to speak a sentence or write a paragraph, your mind goes blank. You can only use those simple basic words, but all the advanced vocabulary you have learned just stays in your mind unused.
The key reason is the difference between passive vocabulary and active vocabulary.
Passive vocabulary consists of the words that you can only recognize and understand. You know what they mean when you see or hear them, but you cannot take the initiative to use them on your own. Most of the words you memorize by rote belong to passive vocabulary. They are just stored in your brain silently without being activated.
By contrast, active vocabulary consists of the words that you can use freely. You can think of them immediately when you need to speak or write. You know their correct pronunciation, proper collocations, grammatical usage and real-life scenarios. These words truly belong to you and become part of your language ability.
To change the situation, we don't need to blindly memorize more new words. Instead, we should dig into the words we've already learned. Try to make sentences with them, use them in real conversations and write short passages with them. Only when we keep practicing and applying can we turn passive vocabulary into active vocabulary.
Remember: knowing a word is not equal to mastering a word. Real English ability is not about how many words you can recognize, but how many words you can use flexibly.
